How to Create Spaces, Card Placeholders, and the Technopoly Logo in Design Space with the Cricut

All SVG files are in black only except "In Dragnet/Watching the Watchers" to provide a template of each design.

1

Start a new project.

Open a blank canvas by selecting New Project.

2

Upload files into Design Space.

Upload each SVG file into Design Space.

Recommendation: Create separate canvases for each category of the game board.

3

Remove graphic background (if desired).

Each graphic has a white background.

To remove this background, find each white shape under Layers and press Delete on your keyboard (or right-click to expand the menu and select Delete).

Other options include hiding the white background before "making" or keeping the background as part of the space.

4

Resize your designs.

Change the size of each design to:

Special spaces: 3" width x 3" x 3" height.

Action spaces: 1.5" width x 2.5" height

Property spaces (not including districts): 1.5" width x 2.5" height

District colors: 1.5" width x 0.6 height

Card placeholders: 3.5" width x 2.25" height

Technopoly logo: 7.5" width x 1.039" height

5

Change layer colors (if desired).

Change the layer colors by selecting the shape and choosing your new color.

Examples of each space design can be found in the above photo.

6

Attach layers.

Each graphic should appear as a Group when uploaded into the canvas.

Click Attach to ensure the design remains in place when cutting out the image.

7

Make project.

Click Make.

Change material size to 12" x 12" if needed.

8

Weed vinyl.

This step can be a bit tedious and time-consuming, especially for the smaller designs - but take a deep breath and step away when needed. You got this!

9

Layer vinyl.

Use transfer tape to layer all weeded graphics and create the images seen above.

Black is typically the top layer for each design.

Preparing the Board

1

Measure your corner spaces.

Use a ruler to measure 3" x 3" squares at each corner.

Draw lines across the board, creating four squares in each corner and the outline of a smaller square in the middle.

Example
2

Measure your inner spaces.

Again, using a ruler, measure out the smaller spaces at 1.5" wide.

Draw vertical lines to divide each edge of the board into 9 smaller spaces (for 36 total 1.5" spaces).

Example
3

Add district colors.

Use the reference photo for correct color district placement.

4

Add corner/special space designs.

Use transfer tape to transfer vinyl designs onto the board.

Use the reference photo for correct placement.

5

Add Action space designs.

Use transfer tape to transfer vinyl designs onto the board.

Use the reference photo for correct placement.

6

Add black vinyl to create space outlines.

Create and cut out lines from black permanent vinyl in Design Space.

Dimensions: 0.043 width x 4" height.

Thin, black whiteboard tape would also work instead of using a Cricut for the space outlines.

7

Add card placeholders.

Use transfer tape to transfer vinyl designs onto the board.

Use the reference photo for correct placement.

Enjoy your newly created game!
